Is it complicated to use a refractometer?

No, it's quite simple.

Using a refractometer is straightforward. There are two simple steps: calibration & measurement.

  • Calibration: Place a few drops of calibration solution on the prism and use the screwdriver to adjust the calibration screw until the reading is correct. (The manual provides details on the appropriate calibration solution and reading index.)
  • Measurement: Apply a few drops of the solutions you wish to test onto the prism and look through the eyepiece; you will obtain the reading.

  • The refractometer scale indicates the brix percentage and corresponding baume and water content, allowing you to gather three metrics of the liquids simultaneously.
